History of the villageAgriculture and the hauling trade and Alpine farming, seasonal work in foreign countries, tourism and the Ill Power Plants are the defining factors of the last 500 years. Gaschurn has the largest expanse of land in the state (176 m²) and the highest mountain in Vorarlberg – the Piz Buin at 3,312 meters. The Maria Schnee ChapelThe chapel on the small hill was built in 1637 and extended in 1780 and 1856. The chapel is a donation from Lukas Tschofen II. Maria Schnee is a local place of pilgrimage surrounded by a number of legends. As can be seen in the votive pictures that used to be kept in the chapel, in the past the Mariahilf picture served as the object of veneration. Today it is in the nave on the right. |
