Knappenweg Turn Off

by Alexander Sohm last modified 2007-03-22 15:15

You are on the Miner’s Path.  Just how far this path went in the Middle Ages cannot be ascertained, but it does lead to what used to be the mine shaft.  Today we can only assume that either people or pack horses carried the ore filled rocks from the mine to be melted down.  About 1000 meters from here we find a tiller which suggests that the mine dates back to the Middle Ages.  While you’re walking over to it, we would be happy to supply you with more information about mining in the Montafon.  The name Montafon itself is connected to early mining in the region.
