Route Description

by Theresa König last modified 2007-11-07 12:34

The Vandans Legend trail is suitable for families and takes about 3 hours to walk, whereby there is a difference in elevation of 380 meters.  If you use public transportation you can take the Montafonerbahn (Montafon Railway) to Vandans.  For those that want to drive there themselves, there are plenty of parking spaces.  There are also lots of restaurants and cafés.

The start of the Vandans Legend Trail is right in the middle of town at 650 meters above sea level.  From here you will go over the Ill River Bridge and walk along the river bank on the right in the direction of St. Anton in Montafon.  Follow the signposts behind the Venserbild Chapel to Agath.  From there you take the path through the meadow to Gluandigraba and to Oberen Venserstrasse.  After about 250 meters you turn down Scheibenkopfstrasse.  From here you come to the Glavadielstrasse and then the Scheibenkopf.  Finally, you will arrive at the highest point on the trail, the Valkastiel Ruins at 1000 meters above sea level.  You can only climb up to the ruins in the summer and even then you need to be sure-footed and be wearing good shoes.  After leaving the ruins you start walking downhill towards Vandans again.  You cross over the Mustergiel Bridge and come to the Diel lime kiln (Diel – Kalkofa) at 690 meters above sea level.  Then you take the Gemsle Path back to the town centre of Vandans.
