Gampadel Brook

Dramatic floods and mud flows have defined the history of the people here since the 18th century.  In 1910 a large portion of the district was covered by a mud flow and they had prisoners of war cultivate the land during World War II.

In 1966 a small saw mill was destroyed and a number of houses were in danger of being destroyed.  It was only with the deployment of heavy machinery that a catastrophe was avoided.  After that the construction of the giant valley barricades was started which were meant to hold back the worst of the wood and boulders that would be carried through in future floods.
